FROM OUR DIRECTORY
This week we’re highlighting LCSW Jennifer Mejia, a compassionate counselor and credentialed supervisor on the North side of Chicago who thrives on helping clients break through their fears, flaws, and day-to-day struggles. She coins her office as a “judgment-free zone” where patients can feel comfortable and encouraged to create change and think differently. She caters treatment plans to each particular patient to promote personal growth and a positive outlook.

Working with her team at Glenview Counseling, Jennifer’s client experience spans adolescents, adults, parent-child relationships, and couples’ therapy. She enjoys working with clients of multicultural backgrounds and says, “I have previous experience working with at-risk teens, children, and infants and have supported women of domestic violence in court hearings. I often implement motivational interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in my clinical approach.”

She treats diverse diagnoses including addiction, anxiety, depression, trauma, life transition, guilt, shame, and self-esteem issues. She’s supervised, monitored, and evaluated mentorship programs and has conducted workshops on parenting, education and awareness, and professional development.

In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her three children, cooking, swimming, and spending time on long walks and in nature. She’s fluent in English and Spanish, earned her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and offers sessions and supervision in-person or via telehealth.

Jennifer jumped on the Directory’s new toggle feature, so her profile prominently shows that she’s “Accepting New Supervisees.” Whether you’re certified to supervise in Illinois or any of the 50 states, it’s easy, affordable, and well worth it to join the
CSD.
FROM OUR FIELD
It’s a collaboration of counselors, therapists, and social workers consulting with one another to offer the most successful treatment possible for patients nationwide. Wouldn’t it be useful to try out new therapy techniques or exchange tips and tools with colleagues? Talking about supervision and hearing stories of relationships can generate a whole new frame of mind and help improve mentoring and supervisory skills.

With all the complicated feelings that come up in therapy, it’s nice to have a crew in your corner. Self-care and spending time away from the office are daily endeavors, but sometimes, our families, friends, and leisure life don’t quite cut it. Confiding in fellow clinicians can be nice because you share the burnout, you understand each other, and you can talk about anything. Why not question each other about the younger generation, a technique you’ve applied, or the tricky cases with which we all can relate?

And it’s equally rewarding to be part of a consultation group. It opens your mind, expands your network, and limits the isolation many feel in their work setting. Better yet, you’re giving meaningful support, answering questions, and offering fresh perspectives. You’re essentially improving the quality of a patient’s care, no matter his or her state of residence.

Look for our own Clinical Consultation groups launching this fall/winter right inside the CSD for members to connect a build a clinical support community of their own!

SUCCESS STORIES
The Directory’s foremost function is to facilitate the search for supervision. We’re set up to support both the supervisor and the trainee with hours to fill.

If you’re a supervisor, you’re not only improving your personal wealth and growing your brand, but you’re bridging the concerning gap between therapists and patients.

How do you feel about supervision? Any success stories? Horror stories? Or helpful hints to share for someone starting the process? Drop us a line or DM us on Instagram.

A good education can change anyone. A good teacher can change everything!
